Soon after introducing the original Royal Oak 5402, Audemars Piguet began exploring ways to incorporate various complications into its distinctive angular case. From sophisticated perpetual calendars to multiple chronograph variants, the brand adapted the Royal Oak’s design to house an expanding set of functions, responding to shifting tastes and a growing desire for variety among collectors

 

Having previously developed a dual-time mechanism for an earlier model, Audemars Piguet chose in 1992 to pair this practical feature with the increasingly popular Royal Oak aesthetic. For many years, however, the complication was offered exclusively in a 36mm case, a size that appealed to a broader clientele at the time.

 

Equipped with a date display, dual-time indication, and a power-reserve readout, the Dual Time remains one of the most mechanically complex mid-size Royal Oak references in the brand’s lineup.

 

This particular watch features a beautiful blue dial that has gently faded to a lighter shade over time, with the characteristic dial with a smooth tapisserie finish. Its various complications are presented within recessed sub-dials: the date function at 2 o’clock, the second time zone at 6 o’clock, and the power-reserve indicator at 9 o’clock. It also sports boat-shaped hour markers with lume and crisp white printed text. The iconic octagonal case is in excellent condition, as is the integrated bracelet, which fits wrists up to 18 cm.

 

Powered by the automatic calibre 2229/2845—based on a Jaeger-LeCoultre movement—the watch has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
