The Cartier Tank Américaine was launched in 1989 as a modern interpretation of the classic Tank, inspired by the curved 1921 Tank Cintrée. It features a larger, more elongated case with a more pronounced curve and brancards along the flanks than its predecessor, yet with a flatter caseback. Originally, it was produced exclusively in precious metals.

 

The model was designed to capture a more contemporary and bolder aesthetic, incorporating modern features such as automatic movements and water resistance in its larger versions.

 

This example is an 18k yellow gold ref. 1740, measuring 26.5 × 45 mm. It features the signature Cartier blue cabochon-set crown, a white dial with black painted Roman numerals, a railway-style minute track, a hidden Cartier signature at the VII marker, a date window at six, and blued steel hands. The watch is paired with a Bulang and Sons strap, and its automatic movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
