Longines 13ZN Chronograph Sandwich Dial in 18k Yellow Gold
In the mid-1930s, Longines created the legendary 13ZN — a movement that would become one of the most celebrated chronograph calibers in watchmaking history. Widely considered by vintage connoisseurs to be one of the finest and most sophisticated in-house chronograph movements of its era, the 13ZN remains a benchmark of technical excellence and craftsmanship.
This example is fitted with an exceptionally rare “sandwich” dial, featuring cut-out numerals that reveal a second layer beneath, giving the dial its distinctive depth. It was an unusual and innovative design for its time — and even today it stands out. Only very few brands, such as Panerai (then produced by Rolex), experimented with a similar layered effect during that period.
The dial is further equipped with a Base 1000 outer scale, a telemeter inner scale, a beautifully scripted “antimagnétique” inscription on the lower half, and two sub-registers for the chronograph. All of this is housed in an 18k yellow gold snap-back case fitted with the squared pushers typical of the era.
The watch comes on the photographed leather strap and features an exceptionally rare 18k yellow gold pin buckle — a true gem in its own right.
Both the case and the movement carry matching numbers, exactly as they should on authentic examples of this reference.
The iconic yellow-gilded 13ZN movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is running beautifully.
