Omega Seamaster Polaris Chronograph in Titanium and Gold ref 386.1232
Launched in 1948 to mark the brand’s 100th anniversary, the Omega Seamaster line is the longest-running collection in the company’s history. Inspired by the waterproof wristwatches Omega produced for the British military at the end of World War II, the Seamaster was conceived as a robust yet refined timepiece for active individuals — a watch equally at home at sea or as a sporty everyday companion.
Omega made its sporting debut at the Gordon Bennett International Ballooning Cup in 1917 and has since gone on to serve as the official timekeeper for many Olympic Games.
At hand we have a Seamaster 1/100″ sec “Polaris” Chronograph, housed in a distinctive Gérald Genta–designed case. The watch and its integrated bracelet are crafted from titanium and gold, featuring a geometric gold bezel inlay within the 38 mm case.
Four “mushroom”-style pushers control the chronograph functions, which are capable of timing to 1/100 of a second. The case remains in fine condition, and the bracelet fits wrists up to 18.5 cm.
The pie-pan–style dial features bold tritium lume dots, crisp white printed text, and three sub-dials for traditional chronograph functions, along with two digital cutouts for 1/100 second timing. Luminous white hands and a red-tipped chronograph seconds hand complete the look. The watch and its quartz calibre 1670 have been fully inspected by our watchmaker, and a fresh battery has been installed.
With the Seamaster Polaris, Genta revealed a playful side of his design genius. While many of his most celebrated creations are described as “industrial” or “geometric,” the Polaris could just as easily be called “quirky” — or simply, “fun” ?!
