Launched in 1932 with the iconic reference 96, the Patek Philippe Calatrava represents the purest expression of the classic dress watch. Born under the Stern family’s stewardship during the Great Depression, it marked a new direction for Patek Philippe—one focused on clarity, balance, and understated elegance.

 

The inaugural reference 96 moved away from the complexity of pocket watches, embracing a clean, modern wristwatch design that reflected both the practical and aesthetic sensibilities of its time.

 

This particular Calatrava is the rarely seen reference 2452R, a 35 mm masterpiece executed in 18k rose gold. It features beautifully downturned, stepped lugs and a concave bezel plus a snap-back case, giving the watch an elegant yet purposeful presence on the wrist.

 

The silver dial is thoughtfully executed, with an Arabic 12, dagger-shaped markers at 3, 6, and 9, and simple stick markers for the remaining hours. A small running seconds sub-dial, graceful leaf hands, and a hard enamel Patek Philippe signature complete the composition.

 

The watch is paired with a Bulang & Sons leather strap, and an additional used original Patek Philippe strap is also included in the sale.

 

Both the watch and its hand-wound caliber 10-400 movement have been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
