Patek Philippe Top Hat Dresswatch in 18k yellow gold ref. 1450 silver dial

Patek Philippe Top Hat Dresswatch in 18k yellow gold ref. 1450 silver dial

This Patek Philippe reference 1450, known among collectors as the “Top Hat” due to its distinctive case profile, was produced from 1940 until approximately 1960. It is a classic example of Patek Philippe’s shaped wristwatches, strongly influenced by Art Deco aesthetics.

The most striking feature of the reference 1450 is its unique rectangular case with hooded lugs and a tall, curved acrylic crystal, which gives the watch its characteristic “top hat” appearance when viewed from the side. This highly distinctive design makes it one of the most uniquely styled timepieces ever produced by the brand.

Measuring 37 × 20.5 mm, including the hooded lugs, the case is in great condition. This fine Top Hat features a beautiful silvered dial with raised enamel signature, a small running seconds sub-dial at six o’clock, applied hour markers, and elegant non-luminous stick hands.

The watch is paired with a Bulang & Sons leather strap, which we find to be a lovely and sympathetic match.

Powering the watch is the manually wound caliber 9-90 movement. This rectangular-shaped movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.

We believe these watches are true wrist gems. The thick plexiglass crystal, combined with the Art Deco–inspired case, makes this a highly interesting and elegant dress watch—one we can wholeheartedly recommend discovering on the wrist!
