Richard Multiscale Steel Case Chronograph Valjoux 23

We have another super cool mid-century steel chronograph to share today, in the form of this Richard. The dial features both telemeter and tachymeter scales. The telemeter scale was used in military situations to measure the distance of a sound, such as an explosion, and the tachymeter measures distance over time. Useful in motorsport, it led to the wider usage of the tachymeter function.

The 36mm steel case remains in great condition and the watch has an anti-magnetic Faraday cage in the case back. The silvery dial has aged lovely over the years, likely due to the radium in the Arabic hours and hands and features a blue tachymeter scale and red telemeter scale. The blue steeled hands still have the radium lume. The Valjoux 23 manual wind movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is fitted with the pictured Bulang and Sons leather strap.
