Rolex Cellini Champagne dial ref. 4132 /8 Box and Paper set
The Rolex Cellini line is a unique and often underappreciated chapter in Rolex's history—serving as the brand’s elegant, dress-watch alternative to its more well-known tool watches like the Submariner and the Daytona.
Introduced in the 1960s, the Cellini line was named after Benvenuto Cellini, a 16th-century Italian goldsmith and sculptor. The name signals the collection's artistic and refined focus—quite different from Rolex’s usual emphasis on sportiness and rugged performance.
Rolex created the Cellini line to showcase traditional watchmaking craftsmanship, with a focus on elegant design and luxury rather than the utilitarian or sporty features seen in the Oyster models.
Furthermore, most Cellini watches lack the waterproof Oyster case that defines much of the Rolex catalog, and they are typically crafted in precious metals. While the Cellini line was never as commercially successful as Rolex’s sports models, it holds a unique and important place in the brand's history.
At hand, we have a rare 18k yellow gold reference 4132/8 (the “/8” denoting the yellow gold version) with 28 × 24 mm sizing. The case features strong lines throughout, a beautifully elegant winding crown, and an unusual shape—dare we say tonneau?
The dial is a sterile, matte champagne color with no-lume and simple stick markers, adding to the understated charm.
This dress watch is fitted with a complementary Bulang and Sons leather strap, complete with the original Rolex 18k gold pin buckle. It comes with its original outer and inner boxes, a Cellini booklet, and the original warranty paper showing it was sold in Germany in December 1988. Also included in the sale is the original invoice from the same German jeweler for 3.950 German marks. The watch and its hand-wound movement have been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
We believe these quirky Cellinis are finally getting the attention they deserve from collectors. Get in touch—let’s talk Cellini love!
