Rolex Cellini silver soleil dial in 18 k white gold ref 3747

The Rolex Cellini line was introduced in the 1960s as a clear departure from the brand’s rugged, professional tool watches like the Submariner and GMT-Master. Named after Benvenuto Cellini, a 16th-century Italian goldsmith and sculptor, the collection was designed to reflect artistic craftsmanship, refined aesthetics, and classic elegance.

 

While the Oyster models emphasized water resistance, durability, and functionality, the Cellini watches focused on slim cases, precious metals, minimalist dials, and manual-winding or quartz movements—hallmarks of traditional dress watchmaking.

 

At hand is reference 3747, housed in a 29 x 29 mm 18k white gold case. This is not a design one typically expects from Rolex—it’s more in line with Omega’s Constellation line in terms of style. The case remains in excellent condition, with its factory sunray finish still strong. The simple silver soleil-finished dial features stick markers, no lume, and an elegant Cellini script.

 

One of the coolest features reveals itself when the watch is turned over: the snap-back case includes a small Rolex coronet notch, designed for a watchmaker’s knife or case opener—subtle, but very much in line with Rolex’s attention to detail.

 

Furthermore, there’s a lovely “B.L.H.” lightly engraved on the case back—presumably by its original owner.

 

In fact, we’ve been wearing this one around the office for a few days—upside down on the wrist, no less—as shown in the wrist shot attached!

 

This seldom-seen Rolex has been paired with a fine Bulang and Sons leather strap and has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
