Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 16520 black MKVI dial with Box
The Rolex Daytona is a true Goliath in the world of watch collecting, with the post-1988 perpetual Daytonas gaining a huge foothold in the collector community.
The reference 16520 was the first Daytona to feature an automatic movement, based on the famous Zenith El-Primero calibre. Introduced in 1988, it marked a major departure from the manual-wind, Valjoux-powered models that came before.
We are delighted to offer this black-dialed version dating to 1998, in beautiful original condition. The rarer black dial is in excellent shape, with sub-dials that have mellowed into a soft cream tone over time—this really is a stunning watch!
The dial features tritium lume, and the ‘6’ in the hours register on the lower sub-dial is printed upright, as it should be. The solid-link Oyster bracelet (ref. 78390) is in great condition, with polished center links, a clasp stamped ‘U6’, and 503B end links. The calibre 4030 movement (a modified Zenith El Primero) has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker. Additionally, this fine Daytona comes complete with its Rolex inner and outer cardboard boxes.
We think reference 16520 is the ultimate bridge between vintage charm and modern performance—an iconic Daytona in every sense. Get in touch to make it yours!
