Rolex Datejust cream Buckley dial ref 1603

First introduced in 1945 to mark Rolex’s 40th anniversary, the Datejust represented a major milestone in the evolution of wristwatches. It was the world’s first self-winding watch to feature a date window that changed automatically at midnight — a feature that has since become a staple across countless brands and models.

The original version, reference 4467, was crafted in 18k yellow gold and debuted alongside the now-iconic Jubilee bracelet, which was designed specifically for its launch. It also featured a coin-edge bezel, a design element that would later evolve into the distinctive fluted bezel now closely associated with the Datejust.

Today, the Datejust continues to be a cornerstone of Rolex’s legacy — elegant, versatile, and endlessly wearable. For many collectors, it’s not a question of if they’ll own a Datejust, but when.

Here we have a standout example fitted with what collectors refer to as a "Buckley dial" — named after New York-based watch dealer John Buckley, who popularized these painted Roman numeral dials to the point that the nickname stuck.

This particular piece features a white dial that has aged beautifully into a warm cream or panna cotta hue, with bold black Roman numerals and a railroad-style minute track. The 36mm stainless steel case remains in excellent condition and is fitted with a machined steel bezel. It comes on a solid Jubilee bracelet, reference 62150H, with end links marked 555.
