Rolex Datejust Gilt Dial ref. 6605 Steel and Gold Execution
The Rolex Datejust hardly needs an introduction. As one of the most iconic models in the Rolex lineup, it effortlessly blends luxury and sportiness at an accessible price point. The Datejust is versatile enough to be worn by anyone, on any occasion, which is why we consider it the perfect watch. However, within this iconic collection, there’s a particular niche that even the most seasoned collectors find especially captivating: the reference 6605, introduced in the second half of the 1950s—almost a decade after the debut of the first Datejust, reference 4467.
What we have here is a steel and gold version featuring an early fine-milled bezel, often called the "coin edge" bezel, paired with a super charming "gilt" gloss dial.
The dial features unusual arrowhead-shaped markers and elegant dauphine hands. Famous for being used on vintage sports watches, gilt dials were made using a galvanic printing process and have a wonderful warmth that makes them incredibly appealing on the wrist ! Furthermore, the pie-pan style dial is signed "Swiss" at the six o’clock position, and we absolutely love the “warm golden script” on this particular one—it adds such a unique touch of character to the watch!
This early Datejust is fitted with a beautiful Bulang & Sons strap, which we think is a perfect match—complementing the watch’s classic charm with a modern touch & the slow-set movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
We don’t see these Gilt dials often anymore , so be quick and get in touch to discuss this cool DJ some more!
