Rolex Day-Date 1803/9 Dark Grey Buckley Dial with Papers and Invoice
Initially presented in 1956, the Day-Date was the first watch to display both the date and the day, spelled out in full.
Due to its association with the President of the United States and its imposing presence on the wrist, the Day-Date earned the nickname “The President.” Soon after its introduction, it became an icon—a watch that, once strapped on, gives you the feeling that you have truly accomplished a goal.
At hand, we have a classic 36 mm reference 1803/9 in 18k white gold, featuring a lovely case and fluted bezel. The star of this piece is the rare Buckley dial in a deep dark grey colour, with an almost “metallic” shine and white painted Roman numerals. Just look at this combination! The lume has aged into a mellow yellow tone, adding a subtle contrast, and the day disc is in English. We paired this marvel with a beautiful Bulang & Sons leather strap.
The case remains sharp full and well-defined, with honest signs of wear consistent with age, and as is sometimes the case on examples that have been lightly plished, the serial numbers are somewhat more difficult to read. This rare example does come with another special touch, It comes with its full original paperwork, including the original warranty paper stating a sale in 1984 in Zurich by retailer Bucherer, as well as the original invoice from the same retailer, dated the same year. The watch comes from an acquaintance of the original owner and its slow setting movement has been fully serviced by our watch maker.
We absolutely love this execution of the Day-Date and hope this Buckley finds its way to a collector who truly feels they have earned the right to wear an “accomplished goal” watch, get in touch to talk this over!
