Rolex Oyster Perpetual "25 Year Coca Cola Service” Ref 6085 in 14 k Yellow Gold

Coca-Cola was invented on May 8, 1886, by Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia, originally conceived as a medicinal soda fountain drink. Containing extracts of coca leaf and kola nut, it was marketed as a tonic to relieve headaches and fatigue. Initially sold for five cents a glass, Coca-Cola grew from just nine servings a day into a global icon through aggressive marketing, bottling, and corporate expansion.

 

Presented here is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6085, engraved to Charles A. Sparks, who was awarded this watch by The Coca-Cola Company in recognition of 25 years of service. These commemorative watches were typically produced in 14k gold, a characteristic often seen in pieces destined for the U.S. market at the time.

 

The watch features a beautiful 34 mm case with an engine-turned bezel and a wonderfully aged cream-colored dial. The dial displays several rare and highly appealing details, including arrowhead-style hour markers at 3, 6, and 9, a “Swiss Only” signature at 6 o’clock, and an applied Rolex logo at 12 o’clock. Most notably, the usual “OCC” designation has been replaced by a black printed “25 Years Service Coca-Cola” writing , making this piece particularly special. The dial is completed by elegant leaf-style hour and minute hands, paired with a blued seconds hand.
