Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust ref 6605 Cream Dial in 18k Yellow Gold

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust ref 6605 Cream Dial in 18k Yellow Gold

We’ve always had a soft spot for the oversized Oysters from the 1950s. They’re highly collectible and represent the early evolution of what would become Rolex’s iconic sports watches.

This particular example is a Datejust, featuring an early yellow gold fine reeded bezel and a striking dial with unusual hour markers. We think the fine reeded bezel found on these early references gives it just that extra bit of character.

The yellow gold case remains in strong, well-preserved condition. The champagne dial is fitted with applied arrow-shaped (or perhaps “spade-shaped”?) yellow gold hour markers, along with a framed date aperture that highlights the date wheel. The dial is signed ‘SWISS’ only, as you’d expect from this era.

The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is offered on the pictured Bulang and Sons leather strap, complete with a gold-plated ‘Plaque’ buckle.

The Datejust is a fascinating watch for collectors, with a wide range of variations to discover. We’ve handled many over the years and are always happy to share our knowledge and experience. Don’t hesitate to get in touch!
