Rolex Oysterdate Precision Silver Dial Ref. 6094

Rolex Oysterdate Precision Silver Dial Ref. 6094

In the early 1950s, Rolex introduced the “Oysterdate Precision” in a waterproof Oyster case with a hand-wound movement and 34mm waterproof Oyster-style case. This was an interesting move by the Rolex brand, considering that the automatic-wound 36mm Datejust had already been introduced in 1945, and the 34mm automatic “Rolex Date” followed in the 1950s.

The movement in these references (e.g. ref. 6094) is manually wound and not COSC-certified. This means the Oysterdate is marked “Precision” on the dial, rather than “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified,” and was offered at a lower price than its contemporaries—the Date and Datejust models of that era. A true oddity from the brand that brought the world the automatic “Perpetual” automatic movement.

The 34mm case is in great condition, featuring lug holes on only one side, a smooth bezel, and a beautiful cream-colored dial with applied coronet and markers. It also has black printed text and a minute track, signed “Swiss Made” at 6 o’clock (correct for this reference in this configuration), along with elegant dauphine-style hands. We’ve paired this dress watch with a high-quality Bulang and Sons strap. The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready to be worn for many years to come.

These watches offer great value in this price range and are a charming piece of Rolex history.
