Tudor Submariner Snowflake Blue dial Ref. 9411/0
The Tudor “Snowflake” nickname refers to Submariner models with reference numbers 7021/0, 7016/0, 9411/0 & 9104/0. This distinctive nickname comes from the watch’s signature design elements: square hour markers and the so-called “snowflake” hands. These hands were introduced by Tudor to improve legibility in low-light and underwater conditions.
Like other Tudor and Rolex Submariners, the Snowflake has a rich history, including military service. Tudor supplied these watches to naval forces, most notably the French Marine Nationale. At the Marine Nationale’s request, Tudor adapted the Submariner design to enhance underwater visibility—a modification that would define the brand’s Submariner aesthetic for years to come.
The changes went beyond the hands. The hour markers became square, and the dial was offered in both black and blue. The case and bezel largely remained unchanged. Soon after the introduction of reference 7016/0, Tudor launched the 7021 /0 which was similar but included a date complication at 3 o’clock, echoing the design of its Rolex counterpart, reference 1680.
Tudor Snowflake Submariners are not only visually distinctive but also carry significant horological and military heritage. These references are increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, and finding one in good condition is becoming ever more challenging.
The watch we have here is a reference 9411/0 from 1978, featuring a date function. Its 40 mm case is in very nice condition, paired with a blue bezel insert that perfectly complements the matching blue dial. The dial retains its square hour markers filled with cream-colored lume, matching the lume on the hands.
It is fitted with a single-pass strap, perfectly suited to the utilitarian nature that defines these classic dive watches. But as these guys are real “strap monsters” we decided to you give you some food for thoughts over here !
